In August, over 2,000 pairs of shoes were distributed to children in Central Texas. The allocations were the result of detailed collaboration between Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls®, South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texans on Mission, Baptist Retirement Community, Camp Buckner, and several San Angelo churches and elementary schools.

More than 350 pairs of the new shoes were provided to Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas for dissemination at their back-to-school bash for a local elementary school. The church’s event gave children new shoes and supplies in preparation for the start of the school year.

Two other local elementary schools, partnering with local churches, received shoes for their students, totaling more than 1,000 shoes distributed locally in San Angelo. The remaining pairs of shoes were sent to Camp Buckner, located in the Hill Country, to support families affected by the Central Texas flooding in and around Kerr County.

The collaboration started when the shoes were donated at the month-long July shoe drive hosted by South Main Baptist Church. Texans on Mission then delivered the shoes to San Angelo on Buckner’s behalf. Additionally, residents and staff of Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo, one of seven communities owned and operated by Buckner Retirement Services, volunteered at the shoes distribution event. This coordinated help came at a critical time, as San Angelo communities were heavily affected by the Central Texas flooding this summer. For families struggling financially and affected by the flooding, the gift of new shoes eased a significant burden.
