Camp Buckner Receives License to Operate for Summer 2026
Camp Buckner is one of the first camps in Texas to have received its official license to operate this summer season. The approval follows extensive preparation and alignment with the updated requirements established by the State of Texas.
Keeping kids and families safe is Camp Buckner’s top priority. Camp leadership understands the need for the increased safety protocols now in place statewide and remains fully committed to the proper implementation of and compliance with the approved, required emergency plan for Texas.
“We are grateful to have received our license to operate this summer and for the continued opportunity to serve campers and their families,” said Todd Long, director of Camp Buckner.
Under the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act (Senate Bill 1) and the Youth CAMPER Act (House Bill 1), the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) now requires camps to maintain and annually update comprehensive emergency plans; provide annual emergency preparedness training for staff; conduct safety orientations for campers; limit the use of cabins located in floodplains; update communication and alert systems; share emergency plans with local response agencies; and undergo an on-site inspection by DSHS.
The announcement comes as many camps across Texas are still working diligently to align with the updated licensing requirements. Camp Buckner recognizes the significant time, resources, and expertise required to navigate these changes.
“We know how much effort is being invested across the state to meet the new standards, and we are cheering on our friends as they work toward compliance,” Long continued.
Camp Buckner remains committed to transparency and communication, the highest standards of safety, and providing a safe summer camp experience for every camper.
Established in 1987, Camp Buckner is a is a premier Christian camp and event destination located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Camp Buckner is a ministry of Buckner International, which has served vulnerable children and families worldwide since 1879.
