Buckner receives funds from Touchdown Houston: Like it on social media!

According to Touchdown Houston, “Super Bowl LI may have been the greatest Super Bowl of all time, but the collaboration with the 78 nonprofits that were awarded a combined $4 million in Touchdown Houston grants can prove to be the greatest Super Bowl community movement of all time.”

At Buckner, we couldn’t agree more and we want you to agree with us on social media today! We were among those grant recipients that benefited from this unprecedented, groundbreaking initiative to elevate the visibility of Houston’s charitable efforts and inspire additional philanthropy.

Touchdown Houston, a charitable giving program created by the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee in partnership with the NFL Foundation, contributed the grants to Buckner International and 77 other local, non-profit organizations.

A long-term contribution to the city, these grants will leave an impact on all 11 counties of the Houston area by concentrating on three key areas: education, health and community enhancement. One quarter of the $4 million in grant funds were provided by the NFL Foundation. The grants will be administered through the Greater Houston Community Foundation, the official administrator of the Touchdown Houston Charitable Fund and one of Houston’s leading philanthropic grant makers.

“Our goal is to extend Super Bowl LI’s positive impact far beyond Super Bowl LI and help further the mission of providing equitable opportunity for all Houstonians,” said President and CEO of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, Sallie Sargent. “The $4 million in grants provided by the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee’s charitable fund and the NFL Foundation will allow Houston-focused, non-profit organizations to deepen their charitable initiatives in the community and enable the continued success of Houston.”

Buckner International has several ministries in the Houston area, including Buckner Family Pathways, a single-parent transitional home, and the Buckner Family Hope Center at Aldine, which engages, equips and elevates families through a variety of services.

“The Super Bowl is a great event for the entire Houston area, and this donation gives people further reason to celebrate,” said Adam McKinney, a Buckner development team member in Houston. “We’re thankful for the generosity of the NFL and the impact this gift will have for vulnerable children and families in the Houston area.”
