Calder Woods welcomes new health care administrator

Michael Cummings is the new health care administrator at Calder Woods. He started Sept. 2.

Cummings joined Buckner Retirement Services three years ago as the senior living coordinator at Buckner Parkway Place in Houston.

"I'm looking forward to being part of the Calder Woods family," he said. "I love helping families, getting to know the residents and working with the staff to make everyone's experience here as positive and loving as possible."

Cummings, who grew up in Bethleham, Pa., graduated from the University of Georgia with a business degree in 1988. His first job out of college was at a country club in Washington, D.C., and then in Baltimore. At 26, he made a big career change and became a commercial insurance underwriter and marketer.

Over the next 20 years, Cummings made many moves and traveled all over the United States, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Charlotte, and most recently Houston, where his wife grew up. He became a licensed nursing facility administrator in March 2014.

Cummings and his wife, Shelly, have two sons, Colin, 15, and Connor, 12. He loves sports and activities such as running, biking, golfing, tennis and air hockey. He also is active as a Stephen Minister in the Catholic faith.

"My Christian beliefs and my family have led me to follow the calling of the Lord, to be in service to him and to love his people," Cummings said. "I look forward to being a part of the residents' lives through prayer, discussion, songs and activities."
