Halliburton Employees fill and donate 760 backpacks with school supplies for children served by Buckner
Halliburton employees gathered this week to fill 760 backpacks with school supplies as part of a Halliburton Charitable Foundation donation to help Houston-area children served by Buckner International. Gathered in the Halliburton Life Center Gym on the Main Campus, the 90 employee volunteers took less than an hour to sort and stuff all the backpacks.
The backpacks for children in elementary school include construction paper, glue, crayons, markers, pencils, scissors, folders, notebooks and more. The backpacks for children in junior high school include notebooks, multipurpose paper, pencils, folders, highlighters, pens, markers, binders, a protractor and more.
For a family struggling financially, the gift of the backpack and supplies is a huge relief considering the average American family plans to spend $696.70 on back-to-school shopping this year, according to a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation.
The opportunity to provide fully stocked backpacks to local children allowed Halliburton employees to come together and give their time to making a real difference to families in the area. In 2018, Halliburton corporate philanthropy, including in-kind donations and employee donations, totaled over $1.9 billion.
The backpacks will be gifted to children at the two Buckner Family Hope Centers in Aldine and at Reed Rd. in South Houston.
