Hometown football star Westin Richburg will speak at annual Heart of buckner Amarillo event
NFL star and Bushland High School alum Weston Richburg will be the featured speaker at the sixth annual Heart of Buckner Amarillo fundraising event. Sponsorship packages and individual tickets are now available for the Feb. 10, 2020 evening program.
Richburg is the starting center for the San Francisco 49ers. He attended Colorado State and was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the New York Giants. While attending Bushland High School, Richburg was a two-way lineman and team captain, and as a senior, earned first-team all-district honors on the offensive line during an undefeated regular season.
“I’m very much looking forward to being able to speak to the community I grew up in, and I’m honored to work with Buckner International because of the great work they do,” Richburg said. “This will be a great time celebrating Buckner and the Amarillo area.”
The 2020 event will feature a moderated conversation between Richburg and former Amarillo Globe-News sports editor and columnist Jon Mark Beilue.
All proceeds from this event will stay in the Amarillo community to benefit the children and families served by Buckner in this area. Buckner offers a wide variety of services to children, families and single mothers with a goal of building the necessary skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life. Buckner Amarillo’s programs include Buckner Family Pathways, Buckner Foster Care and Adoption and the FYi Center.
“Weston Richburg has meant so much to the community over the years, from his success to his dedication to giving back to Amarillo, and we are excited to be able to bring him back home for an evening dedicated to shining a light on our local programs for vulnerable children and families,” said Kathy McGee, senior executive director of Buckner Children and Family Services in Amarillo.
“Buckner has served Amarillo for over 30 years thanks to the support of our generous donors, and this event provides them with a great opportunity to continue to help, gain valuable brand exposure and enjoy a wonderful evening with a hometown hero.”
Hors d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee will be provided at the event, which will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
