Little Big Tex donates shoes to Buckner
Yesterday was National Shoe the World Day, and Little Big Tex showed up to display how important shoes are for children in Dallas.
Little Big Tex and his colleagues from the State Fair of Texas Administrative Office donated 56 pairs of new shoes to Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls®. State Fair employees collected the shoes over the past three weeks.
“State Fair of Texas employees were excited to be part of such a wonderful cause,” said Natalynne Walton, community and advocacy manager for the Fair. “I pray Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls will continue to serve local children and make a difference in our community.”
Shoes are vital to promote health in communities, especially in places where foot borne illnesses are prevalent. Additionally, shoes are lowering barriers to an education, empowering children to meet all the potential God has for them.
"We're so grateful to our friends at the State Fair of Texas for taking the time to collect these shoes for children in need right here in Dallas," said Shawn Spurrier, director of Shoes for Orphan Souls. "Even here in Dallas, so many children go without, and beyond the health benefits, a pair of new shoes lets a child know they are seen and valued."
All the shoes collected by the State Fair employees will stay in Dallas and will primarily go to families served by the Buckner Family Hope Center™ at Wynnewood in South Dallas.
