Making Minds Bloom: Longview organizations host community health fair
Buckner Westminster Place, a senior living community in Longview, will host a free health fair, Making Minds Bloom, for the greater Longview community March 19 at 9 a.m. The luau-themed fair will focus on the prevention of and coping with dementia and memory loss. The Alzheimer’s Association, Good Shepherd Medical Center, Elite Home Health and Parkinson’s support group will exhibit at the event.
Attendees will learn about healthy eating options, how to slow down the aging process, keep their brains alert and how to stay mobile. It will be an opportunity for family members of those experiencing memory loss to come learn more about how they can help their loved one.
“We hope to provide free education and resources for anyone who might be affected by memory loss or other life-limiting illnesses,” said Wes Wells, executive director of Buckner Westminster Place. “We will cover all aspects of healthy living – eating, emotional, mental, spiritual and physical. We believe in healthy aging and want to help as many people as we possibly can. We want to be a resource for our community.”
Longview mayoral candidate Richard Manley plans to attend and to speak to attendees. Local writer and columnist Dorothy Horne will give a sneak peek into her new book, “Glimpses of Grace: Walking in Hope through Alzheimer’s and Ordinary Days,” and will raffle off pre-orders of the book.
The event is free and open to the public. Media is invited to attend and photo opportunities will be available.
