Buckner Family Pathways® awarded $100,000 grant from Texas Mutual
Five Buckner Family Pathways® locations received a $100,000 grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company. The funds will be dispersed across Family Pathways locations in Amarillo, Longview, Lubbock, Lufkin and Midland.
Almost 40% of children in Texas live in single-parent families. Adults and children in single-parent households are at a higher risk for adverse health effects, such as emotional and behavioral problems.
Supporting single parents, transforming families
The Family Pathways program provides single parents affordable housing, life skills development, educational resources, counseling and more. Through the program, parents and their children experience stability and hope that creates a path toward success for generations to come.
“These funds will go toward our general operating funds in these locations across Texas,” shared Marisa Phillips, senior director for Buckner Family Pathways. “This ensures we can continue to provide both affordable housing and wrap-around services such as family coaching, counseling and overall support to our families.”
In 2022, 45% of Family Pathways participants graduated with an associate degree and more than 40% reported both stable employment and the choice to continue their education with additional degrees.
Working families make up 65% of Texas households
The $100,000 grant for Family Pathways was part of more than $4 million in grants announced by Texas Mutual to support Texas nonprofit efforts in generational learning to support working families. Buckner was one of 62 Texas organizations awarded funds.
“Our generational learning grants allow us to partner with organizations that are doing remarkable work across the state to help families thrive and create meaningful change now and for future generations,” said Jackie Sekiguchi, Texas Mutual community affairs manager.
The grants from Texas Mutual are part of their larger commitment of $8 million in community funding this year to nonprofit organizations in two categories: generational learning to support working families and workforce development and safety training.
Joining forces to lift up those in need
The relationship between Buckner and Texas Mutual has flourished over the years through both volunteer opportunities and financial support. Last year, Family Pathways received a $50,000 grant from Texas Mutual.
“Texas Mutual has supported Buckner through volunteer opportunities for many of our ministries including foster care and Family Pathways,” shared Myndi Easter, major gifts officer for Buckner International. “They have participated in staff workdays and even helped with redoing the atrium space at the Buckner Family Hope Center® and Family Pathways campus in Lubbock. We are grateful for their ongoing support.”
If your business feels called to impact single families, Buckner can help you achieve your corporate social responsibility goals.
“While financial support for ongoing programming is always helpful, we can also use in-kind donations such as furnishings for campus apartments, household paper and cleaning supplies, personal care items, and computers and printers,” Phillips said. “Volunteers are also always welcome.”
