Success is hard to find, particularly when you’re striking out on your own. Even the best ideas sometimes fail. According to the Small Business Association, 30 percent of new businesses fail during their first two years. Half of small businesses close in less than five years.
The odds may be stacked against them, but in many of the places Buckner serves vulnerable families, parents need to create economic opportunities for themselves in order to succeed. In order to stand up on their own, they need to stand out on their own.
That’s why Buckner has increased efforts to help families start and sustain businesses. Through coaching and grants, families have started a variety of businesses, including hair salons, automotive repair shops, printing companies and more.
These families have taken a chance and it’s making a difference for their families. “Many of the entrepreneurs are the sole providers for their families, therefore a successful business means their families will become more secure,” explained Charlotte Navarro, manager of economic strengthening for Buckner International. “This aligns with the mission of Buckner Family Hope Centers, which is to strengthen families.”
Where is God calling you to take a chance? Is fear holding you back from doing what God is calling you to do?
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. -Isaiah 41:10
