Friday photo: East Texas Subway presents check to Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls
In the month of August, locally-owned SUBWAY® restaurants in the Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches and Lufkin, Texas, area partnered with Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® by allowing Subway customers throughout the area to add a dollar amount to their purchase to help provide shoes to children across the globe through Shoes for Orphan Souls. Stores raised $4,064.82 for the organization. A Longview-based franchisee matched the contribution in honor of a tenured employee who is an alumna of the Buckner Children’s Home.
“It has been an absolute honor for our local Subway shops to help support the amazing work Buckner does here in East Texas and around the world," said Subway Franchisee Doris Wallace. "Buckner serves children and families in the same communities our neighborhood shops are in. Subway is always looking for ways to support our local communities so partnering with Buckner to raise money for the Shoes for Orphan Souls program was a natural fit.”
"We are so grateful to Subway and our partner communities in East Texas for their generous support of Shoes for Orphan Souls," said Rachel Wallis, director of Shoes for Orphan Souls. "It's incredibly special to us that additional funds were given in honor of a Buckner alumna. We know that long-term change in communities starts one person at a time, and we're so proud of this graduate and her success. Each dollar raised in this campaign will go to provide shoes for vulnerable children, and we hope to hear even more success stories in the future thanks to this effort."
