Aging out of foster care: Jasmine's story

Foster youth discovered hope and healing at Buckner NextStep

Jasmine Bourne-Thorne grew up as a foster child and eventually aged out of the system when she was 18 years old.

"The decision process took a toll on me, like when I had to finally be mature enough to say, 'You still need some guidance, and that's OK," Jasmine said.

Jasmine was able to find that guidance and help at Buckner NextStep. At Buckner NextStep, Jasmine received support to help meet her educational and career goals as well as resources and training to help her transition to adulthood. She also found hope and healing.

"I would tell Buckner NextStep has definitely put a different meaning on my life," Jasmine said. "I thought my world was over, and they gave me another chance."
