Grant helps serve vulnerable children in Rio Grande Valley
The Buckner Rio Grande Children’s Home was the recipient of a $20,000 grant from the Maximus Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Maximus. The grant will support the Children’s Home’s 2022 operating budget and help Buckner to better serve vulnerable children and families in the Rio Grande Valley through foster care and adoption services.
The Maximus Foundation focuses on community development, health care and youth development programs such as child abuse prevention and support services. The Buckner Rio Grande Children’s Home serves vulnerable children who have been removed from their homes and placed in the state’s custody due to situations of neglect or abuse.
Buckner was awarded its first grant from the Maximus Foundation in 2013. Since then, the organization has played a role in serving the Rio Grande Valley community with Buckner.
“We are thankful to receive this gift from the Maximus Foundation,” said Andi Harrison, director of foster care and adoption in the Rio Grande Valley. “The grant will help Buckner better serve vulnerable children in the foster care system through programming, counseling and more. We are grateful for the continued support of the Maximus Foundation and Maximus employees who volunteer with Buckner regularly to help serve vulnerable children and families in the Rio Grande Valley.”
Maximus employees have previously volunteered with Buckner, hosted drives to collect school supplies for children served by Buckner and offered trainings for Buckner foster care staff and parents.
"In the spirit of the mission and objectives of the Maximus Foundation, Buckner Children and Family Services has shown unwavering commitment to the youth in our communities. Their essential services help fill the gap as children and their families navigate a pandemic-driven virtual world," said John Boyer, Maximus Foundation Chairman. "We applaud the work they do for at-risk youth, and we look forward to seeing more of their continuing success in the future.”
