Veterans Day is a special day to honor and celebrate military veterans who have served across the United States Armed Forces and protected our country. We are thankful for their sacrifice and grateful to both them and their families for their commitment to serving and loving this country.
Here are a few ways you can honor a veteran you know - or maybe one you run into today.
Say thank you
Likely the simplest way to honor someone is to just say thank you, but many times, going out of your way to say something can mean the most. A simple thank you goes a long way and honors both the sacrifice and the risk the veteran faced to serve the U.S.
Send a care package
Whether that's bringing by homemade cookies or a sweet treat to a veteran you know, or sending a care package to soldiers currently serving, a care package always brightens someone's day. To fill your package, you can add items such as lip balm, snacks (that won't be easily crushed), baked goodies and even games like cards or crossword puzzles. There are many nonprofits available that will help organize mailing your package to troops.
Pray for them
Coming home from serving in the armed forces can bring along with it many challenges, emotions and creating a new normal. This adjustment is not always easy. Offer to pray for a veteran and remember to include them in your prayers each day.
Sit and listen
Many veterans come home with stories of their time in the military. Giving them an opportunity to share their experiences and honor their stories helps them to feel supported.
Veterans Day gives Americans a special opportunity to honor and thank those who have served, protected and sacrificed for our country. Find a way to celebrate them and their families today.
