Calder Woods will kick off the Father’s Day weekend on Friday (June 19th) with our 12th annual Antique Car Show. The fun begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until noon outside the main entrance at 7080 Calder Ave. in west Beaumont.

Owners of classic cars from two local car clubs -- Aces Car Club and the Model A Car Club -- will be among those participating. Invite your family and friends to stroll down memory lane with us. Residents and guests will vote for their favorite cars and trophies will be awarded to those receiving the most votes.

Residents love to reminisce about their younger days as they view the classic cars and share their memories with the younger generations.

Resident Edna Buck, 92, recalls her high school days as a 17-year-old senior, when she remembers driving around with her friends in a car with a rumble seat, which was popular in the car designs of the late 1930s. They would often sit in the extra, foldable seat and get a thrill by hanging onto the back of the car with their hair flowing in the wind. Buck graduated from high school in 1941 in Burkeville and has lived in Beaumont since 1944.

“This will be my fourth year to go to the car show at Calder Woods,” Buck said. “I always look forward to seeing the cars displayed. They often take me back to my younger years. I’ve even had the chance to sit and take my picture in cars I only dreamed of having when I was younger, like a beautiful red convertible. Seeing these older cars reminds me of good times with friends and family, and it’s nice to share a part of my history with younger families who come.”

After the car show, Calder Woods hosts a special Father’s Day luncheon for residents and their guests.

“We love seeing the residents’ faces light up when they see cars they grew up with, used to own or dreamed of owning,” said David Long, Director of Marketing at Calder Woods. “This multi-generational event allows people of all ages to bond over something that is universally appealing – cars. We invite local families to come out and share their special memories with their children and grandchildren, spending time together during this special weekend.”
