1,300 Angelina County students have new shoes today because of you

Thanks to your generosity, more than 1,300 vulnerable Angelina County students are walking proudly through the halls of their respective schools in new shoes.

The 1,314 pairs of shoes were collected this summer during a community-wide Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® drive and distributed to vulnerable children in the county during the Lufkin Back to School Bonanza.

Bonanza volunteers included several residents of the local Buckner Family Pathways, an effort empowers single parents to reach their educational goals while having safe, secure housing.

“Our 4th Annual Community Shoe Drive enabled our community to become engaged in our ministry at Buckner by donating shoes to children in need,” said Holly Valentine, Lufkin Family Pathways director. “The shoes collected represent over 1,000 children in our community affected by the generosity of our community.”

Receiving a pair of shoes often helps children and families know about a variety of other services that are available, empowering them to change their lives.

“A gift of a new pair of shoes can be the first step in a transformational journey,” Valentine said.
