A tale of two sisters
Brandy was tirelessly working two jobs, about 60-70 hours per week, but found herself still struggling to make ends meet for herself and her son, Elijah. She knew that education was the key to stopping the endless cycle of struggling. That's when she found out about the Buckner Family Pathways program in Conroe.
Little did she know at that the time how much Family Pathways would transform her life, but also that of her sister as well.
Immediately after joining the program, Brandy noticed a change in herself. She was happier and less stressed. The Family Pathways program created a strong foundation of support for her, helping her grow and experience positive change. Brandy finally felt she was making progress toward achieving her goals.
People began to notice Brandy’s change, including her sister, Alexis. Alexis is a mother of two and expecting another. Alexis also found herself working many hours without seeing any results. Brandy invited her to meet the family coach at the Family Pathways in Conroe.
Alexis was accepted into the program and the sisters began to build a closer relationship than they ever had before while they both work to complete their goals.
Brandy is working part time while pursuing a degree in nursing. She has successfully completed her first semester of college and was recently accepted into Honor College through Lone Star Community College. Recently, she was baptized has also dedicated her son.
Alexis is working part time while attending school to pursue a degree in criminal justice. She has successfully completed her first semester of college at Lone Star Community College. Alexis recently made a decision to follow Christ and was baptized in February 2019. She actively attends church and participates in extra classes to continue developing her spiritual self.
The sisters are the first in their family to graduate high school and attend college. They are motivated to live a different life than what they witnessed growing up. Through the various parenting curriculums and working with a parent educator, the sisters have learned more about child development and have enhanced their relationships with their children. Through resources such as a financial coach, both women are learning ways to save and budget their finances in order to reach one of their many long-term goals of owning their own home. In addition, both Brandy and Alexis are active in their community, volunteering for several organizations.
Brandy and Alexis said that Buckner Family Pathways gave them the foundation to build on and attribute their success to the opportunities and resources the Family Pathways program has to offer.
“Before I came to this program, I never saw a future for myself, only where I was going to work and who is going to take care of my kids,” Alexis said. “After joining Family Pathways, I see myself happy with my children. I have a better relationship with God and now see the strength in prayer.”
