Buckner adoptive family featured in the Odessa American
Two Odessa, Texas, girls officially became a part of their forever family through Buckner on Monday. The Odessa American reports:
The two girls, 5-year-old Livy and 3-year-old Ashley, were also ecstatic about the day, both hugging and kissing their newly minted parents while Ashley sang a song in the courtroom.
Their adoptive parents, Lorena and Rito Renteria, became foster parents through Buckner in Midland, Texas, three years ago. They are high school sweethearts who began considering adoption after struggling with infertility.
Going through the training, the couple became foster parents; knowing that if they became attached to the children that came into their care, there was the chance the children could still be placed elsewhere.
“We didn’t know if we could handle the heartbreak,” she said.
Then the Renterias got Livy and Ashley, and said the two girls were immediately drawn to them. Though licensed to house one child, officials did not want to break the sisters up, and placed them in the couple’s care.
The attraction to the girls was also immediate.
“When we first met, the oldest just gave me a hug and from there, I was like, ‘OK, this is it,’ ” Lorena Renteria said.
Congratulations to the Renteria family!
