Celebrating International Women's Day
Today is International Women’s Day. It’s likely you know a woman in your life who juggles more than just one role, one relationship or even just one task at a time. Women often wear multiple hats at once from mother, wife, friend, pastor, wise counsel or business owner – to much more.
International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s. In March 1908, women who worked in the needle trades marched through New York, protesting current dire working conditions and demanded the right to vote. Since then, women have continued to cheer each other on, fight for equal opportunities and become leaders in whatever trade they pursued.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is to inspire inclusion: “When women are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.”
At Buckner International, we are honored to have many powerful, inspiring women as part of our mission as staff, volunteers, donors and within the families we serve.
To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, women at the recent Buckner Leadership Retreat shared about the variety of hats they wear beyond the office. From mothers to ministers to professors, we are celebrating inclusivity and opportunity – and the many things women do each day to grow, inspire and lead.
How are you celebrating inclusivity in your life and in those around you?
