Children never outgrow the need for a family
Kenneth and Jenny Kerr have 14-year-old biological twins and decided they were ready for some more fun in their lives.
"We added another 14-year-old, so we have triplets right now," Jenny shared.
Over the years, the couple has had 11 children stay with them - ranging from respite care to long-term placements. They had initially focused on fostering, but when the pandemic hit, they decided to move toward opening their home to Waiting Texas Children.
Waiting Texas Children provides permanent homes for children living in foster care whose parents' rights have been terminated. Youth who are awaiting adoption range in age but 60% are 6 years old or older. The longer kids wait for adoption, the more difficiult it is to find a forever family to adopt them.
"One of the reasons we pursued foster care and adoption in the first place was, 'What would Jesus do?'" Jenny said.
There are nearly 6,000 children in Texas waiting to be adopted. And if not adopted, they will age out of the system at 18 years old to face adulthood on their own.
