Comprehending vastness

A devotion on God's intimate love

As summer comes to a close and transitions in family schedules naturally take place, take time to reflect on and savor all the ways our gracious and merciful God revealed himself to you this summer. Were you in any new places, situations or relationships where you experienced God in a new way?

I love Stuart Townend’s beautiful lyrics, "How deep the Father's love for us - How vast beyond all measure ...”

God’s unconditional love for us is both vast and unfathomable to our finite minds, while also deeply intimate and personal through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The simultaneous nature of how our Lord chooses to engage with us, and reveal himself to us, is amazing. As believers, we are his image bearers. I encourage you to share with others how he has revealed himself to you!

It's like flying over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon and marveling at the vast creation from an elevated view and then landing in a field of flowers and noticing the intricate petal design of one specific flower.

In our work through Buckner International, we have the privilege of seeing the big picture of God’s great love for children and families, and then experience the call to engage each one in his name.

“None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written, 'What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him' - these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit." - 1 Corinthians 2:8-10 (ESV)
