Faith Focus: Count your blessings by counting the people you love
As I contemplated Thanksgiving leading up to this devotion, I thought of the many ways God has blessed my family this year. We’re healthy. We’re safe. We’re happy.
Before I realized it, I was literally counting my blessings. As we close out National Adoption Month, the families Buckner serves and serves alongside can count their blessings simply by counting the number of heads in their home.
Some of our Buckner foster and adoptive families always wanted to adopt. For others, it was an unexpected calling. Whichever path they traveled, each child has blessed the family they’ve entered.
Parent's eyes light up as they share stories of how they first met their children, what makes their children special and how grateful they are for any time a child spent in their respective homes. Though these parents balance busy jobs and schedules, all the stress seems to fade away when they talk about how much their children have blessed their lives. All that matters is how God has blessed their family.
As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season approaches, many of us find ourselves fretting over the issues of life. When that happens, maybe it’s time to do what these families, Thanksgiving and the Bible encourage us to do – count our blessings.
By looking at how God has blessed us, we refocus our mind on him and his provision. We can see how he has provided for our families and remember how he will care for us in the future.
As a result, we live our lives out of the blessings God has given us.
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. –Ephesians 5:19-20
