Faith Focus: God save us
Yesterday, we kicked off Holy Week by celebrating Palm Sunday. We remembered and reflected on Christ’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. Christ riding on a donkey. Palms trees across the path before him. People shouting:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!” –Matthew 21:9
Most of the time when we think about the phrases the people shouted, we think of the term hosanna to be expressions of praise. People are worshipping Jesus as he enters the city.
But hosanna also has another meaning. Hosanna is a plea for salvation. In essence, they are begging for God to save them.
Today, we respond much the same way. Save us from our addictions. Save us from our shortcomings. Save us from our struggles. Save us from our sins.
Save us, please.
