Scott and Erin (on right above, pictured with Buckner staff member Melissa Martin) are foster parents through Buckner International who have a 12-year-old biological daughter and a 15-month-old son they adopted through foster care. On National Adoption Day this month, they will be adopting another daughter through foster care.

A few weeks ago, Scott and Erin stopped by Dallas-based radio station KCBI to share how adopting through foster care has changed them both emotionally and spiritually.

“I feel so deeply about this subject [of foster care and adoption]," Erin said. "I feel so spiritually changed by it all. So many feelings that don't always have words to describe them.”

When we follow God, he changes us. He molds and shapes us along the journey. In the process, we become more like him. In the case of Erin and Scott, there may be no clearer picture of how God adopted each us than when parents adopt children.

The couple has learned to love deeper than ever before. They’ve embraced the power of a supportive community. They’ve discovered what family truly means.

As you read Romans 12:1-2, think about how your relationship with Christ is transforming your life. Where is God continuing to mold you?

Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
