Hector Flores has one wish for his children: “I want them to study so they can become someone. Not like me.”

He does anything he can to help them. He’s raising them on his own. He’s working long hours. Still, his family struggled in the Rio Grande Valley.

Exasperated, he decided to turn to the local Buckner Family Hope Center for help. The Hope Center provided new shoes donated through Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® for his children – Hector Javier, Rene, Sandy and Tania. Then he enrolled in a class about managing his finances. A fatherhood class was next. It was one decision after another in an effort to make his wish come true.

The Hope Center staff noticed Hector’s determination and he began accumulating points, ultimately earning enough for mission teams to build his family a new home through Buckner Domestic Missions. Now, his family has a bright future ahead.

“Just because of a brand new pair of shoes, Hector was able to learn how to be a better father, learn how to manage his finances and he also learned how to keep a job,” says Ricardo Brambila, director of the Hope Center. “Now a house comes.”

God honors the choices we make in an effort to follow him. Each time we do it, he is pleased. He guides our steps. We may not know where his is leading us, but he has a plan for us.

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” -2 John 1:6
