Faith Focus: Soaking in God's Word
Yesterday, my mom and I were outside walking my dog. The sun was out and there was a cool breeze.
“It feels like spring,” my mom said.
And it really did. You know that feeling after a long winter when the weather starts to turn. There is a certain feel and smell in the air that just announces spring is here.
Spring is the time for rebirth. The birds begin to chirp again. Leaves start to grow back on the trees and flowers bloom in brilliant colors. The rains come and all the new plants soak it in springing forth life. Spring fills you with hope.
Like the tender plant soaking in the rain, we should also be soaking in the Word of God. We should crave it, desire it and absorb its truths. When you let the teachings of Christ consume you, it fills you with hope, strength and encouragement.
It’s easy to forget to spend that quiet time with the Lord and his Word. It’s easy to let our busy lives consume our schedules and overwhelm us.
As you watch the newness of spring begin to take shape, allow the spirt of spring to form in your heart. Spend each day with the Lord in quiet reflection and allow the promises of Scripture to take root in your soul. No matter what season you may be enduring – happiness, sadness, hardships, stress – the Word of God can offer you the promise of hope.
So today, immerse yourself in the Word of God and feel the rebirth of spring in your soul.
“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God.” –Deuteronomy 32:2-3
