Faith Focus: Unsubscribing from God
Each day, roughly 269 billion emails are sent globally. Sometimes it seems like they all land in my inbox, but research says the actual average number of emails received by a person daily is 90. Even at that level, it’s difficult for me to keep up.
It’s enough to make me want to unsubscribe to everything. Maybe you can relate.
Disconnecting is always a temptation in life. We can even be tempted to disconnect from our church or from God all together. Don’t believe me? Let me ask some questions. Answer honestly to yourself.
- What do you do during a sermon on tithing?
- When is the last time you meditated on God’s Word?
- Are you praying for someone who doesn't have a relationship with God?
Before you start beating yourself up too badly, I want you to know that I'm talking to myself as much as you today. We're human. We lose focus. We get distracted. It happens. For me, it happens far too often.
When we disconnect from God, we disconnect from his power and his strength. We attempt to live life on our terms and our power. That's a recipe for failure.
As the old hymn says, let's turn our eyes to Jesus this week. Focus on him. Rely on him. Let him do great things through us.
"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
-Isaiah 41:10
