Faith Focus: Who is the next superhero?
As we wrap up our month highlighting Buckner “superheroes” – those who have gone to great lengths to protect children and strengthen families, it dawned on me last night that the need for superheroes never goes away.
In the context of Buckner, the need for something heroic arises nearly every time the phone rings. It happens when a family is in crisis, a child is vulnerable or the direction of a life is uncertain.
These tragic situations are opportunities for people to step up. For people like us, they are opportunities to truly step out on faith and express the love of God in amazing ways.
Doing so isn’t always easy. In fact, becoming a foster parent, serving a family you’ve never met or volunteering in an after-school program can seem downright scary. These acts wouldn’t be heroic if everyone did them.
It’s our prayer at Buckner that this month of highlighting superheroes for children and families never ends. We pray that individuals like you continue to step up to meet the needs of the vulnerable.
The next chapter in the life of someone in pain is yet to be written. Will you be a hero in their story?
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
