Hey Metroplex! Join Texas Rangers Nomar Mazara to collect shoes Aug. 17
Texas Rangers player Nomar Mazara is hosting a one-day shoe drive with Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls®. The Dominican Republic-born player is teaming with Buckner International to help bring new athletic shoes to vulnerable children in his hometown. Fans who bring one or more new pairs of athletic shoes will have the opportunity to meet the Mazara Saturday, Aug. 17 from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex presented by Toyota. The academy is located at 2303 Bickers Street in Dallas.
The Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy is also home to one of three Dallas-area Buckner Family Hope Centers, which provide programs and services to strengthen families in the community.
“This is an amazing opportunity to help children in the Dominican Republic and meet Nomar,” said Shoes for Orphan Souls Director Rachel Wallis. “He has a great heart for kids in the DR and want to share their passion through shoes.”
Wallis noted that all donated shoes must be new. “The greatest need is for new athletic shoes, sizes Youth 4 to Adult 9. Cash donations are also accepted and will help purchase additional shoes as well as cover distribution costs for Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls.”
Buckner International will distribute the shoes to children in Santo Domingo (Mazara’s hometown).
