Buckner International’s Shoes for Orphan Souls® Garners Support From K-LOVE Radio

DALLAS – It’s hard to imagine what it’s like to live without shoes, but for many orphans and vulnerable children around the world, it’s a reality. And while new shoes are considered a luxury by some people, many children are forced to walk barefoot on rocky terrain or sewage-lined streets just to collect water for their families or play with their friends.

Buckner International's Shoes for Orphan Souls ministry is partnering with K-LOVE Radio to encourage support for K-LOVE and provide new shoes to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and around the world.

"We are thrilled to partner with K-LOVE in bringing awareness to Shoes for Orphan Souls during the month of April," said Scott Collins, vice president of Communications for Buckner International. "We share the same heart and mission for serving the most vulnerable and we know that by working together we can make an even bigger impact for God's kingdom."

During the month of April, K-LOVE listeners who make a new pledge of support to K-LOVE with a $40 monthly EZ gift will also help provide a new pair of shoes to a child in need through Shoes for Orphan Souls.

K-LOVE will also encourage listener involvement by hosting and participating in local shoe drives to help the organization meet its goal of distributing more than 170,000 pairs of new shoes to children in need this year.

“We are excited about this partnership with our listeners and with Buckner in providing real help to children in need,” shares K-LOVE’s CCO David Pierce. “Our listeners have a heart for God and always amaze me in their response to our partnerships that are making a difference around the world!”

According to The State of the World’s Children as reported by UNICEF, there are 148 million orphans around the world. Orphanages do not receive enough funding to support the children in their care. One of the greatest and most immediate needs is a pair of shoes. Many of the children receive one pair of shoes to last the entire year, and some don’t have shoes at all. Shoes also protect feet from many diseases and help impoverished children go to school, since most schools around the world consider shoes to be an essential item.

Due to customs regulations and the desire for children to receive a new pair of shoes, Buckner only accepts new shoes and socks. The greatest need is for leather or canvas athletic shoes sizes Youth 1 – Adult 7.
