MAKING MEMORIES

Residents look back on 15 years at Calder Woods

As we celebrate our 15th birthday in October 2015 at Calder Woods, we asked residents to share some of their favorite things about Calder Woods. What is their favorite memory? What do they like best about living here? Why did they decide to move and make Calder Woods their home? Here are some of the thoughts they shared with us…

“I lived in a large, two-story house with a lot of lawn to take care of for five years after my husband died. I finally decided it was too much for me to handle and I needed to explore other options. When I came to see Calder Woods, I realized it was perfect for me. I moved in to a spacious, two-bedroom apartment. I’ve made new friends and stay busier than I ever thought I would — playing cards and dominoes, arts and crafts classes, holiday parties and more. I’ve lived here eight years and it feels like home.” — Sibyl Allen

“A few years after we retired, we came to the conclusion that it was time for us to downsize from our large home and change our lifestyle. We visited Calder Woods and determined it was just the right place for us. The campus is beautiful. We were so impressed with the staff, the residents and everything about it. We’ve lived here six years. The best part of living here is we don’t have to cook or worry about housekeeping and yard work. It’s a lifestyle of leisure and luxury!” — John and Billie Templeton

“Living at Calder Woods affords me the opportunity to enjoy my old friends and make new ones. I have friends that I first met in 2007 when I moved to Calder Woods Independent Living. Now, I’ve returned to Calder Woods Skilled Nursing where I reconnected with my old friends and made new ones. I love being involved in the activities — the lunches, the games, the parties — all of it! I am not as strong as I used to be and need more medical attention. My doctor comes to me, which makes it more convenient for my family. The staff takes excellent care of me. I depend on them for my care and their friendship.” — Dorris Bruce

“It is important to me that my Mom have the opportunities every day to be socially involved with her friends, but at the same time receive excellent medical care. My mom’s health condition requires daily care by trained professionals. The beautiful setting and the friendliness of the staff make her feel at home … her home. Her sense of belonging gives me peace of mind.” — Debbie Cowart
