McPherson to lead Buckner Hospice

Buckner Retirement Services is pleased to announce Nicole McPherson as the new administrator of Buckner Hospice.

McPherson comes to Buckner from Good Shepherd Hospice in San Antonio where she served as a chaplain and bereavement coordinator. She held a similar role at Heartland Hospice, for a collective total of three years in hospice services. During that time, Nicole also owned and operated her own counseling practice where she specialized in marriage and family counseling.

“We’re delighted to have Nicole join the Buckner team,” said Charlie Wilson, senior vice president of Buckner Retirement Services. “Her passion for serving people during one of life’s most vulnerable seasons is truly compelling. We look forward to seeing how her leadership continues to grow this ministry.”

McPherson is an ordained minister and holds a doctorate in clinical counseling. She earned a Master of Psychology from Capella University, and a Bachelor of Science in sociology and psychology from Grand Canyon University. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in San Antonio, but later felt called to work in hospice after her grandmother was placed on Buckner Hospice in Houston.

"I wanted to become one of the angels myself," McPherson said. "I love hospice and all they provide to personally meet the needs of each family. Being with patients and families during this difficult transition has been my true calling since I was a little girl. It just took me 30 years to realize!"

Operating in the Houston and Beaumont areas, Buckner Hospice serves senior adults experiencing a life limiting illness. When curative care is no longer beneficial or desired, hospice care focuses on making the patient comfortable and supporting the family. The Buckner Hospice team works closely with residents, families and staff at both Calder Woods in Beaumont and Parkway Place in Houston to further solidify the Buckner Retirement Services family.

As administrator, McPherson oversees the daily operations and financial management of Buckner Hospice, compliance with governmental regulations and all direct care services provided to hospice patients. Under her leadership, the Buckner Hospice team helps patients live with purpose, dignity, grace and support.

"I work with hospice patients because we have no control when the end of life is near," McPherson said. "My goal is that Buckner Hospice is known for their compassion, and that the families feel our love during this journey that is never easy to take. I am beyond blessed with the team I have in Beaumont and Houston, and believe God brought be back home both to be near my family and join this incredible company."
