Nichole’s Story
Nichole Watkins and her children lived in a house with drug addicts before they came to My Father’s House.
“I heard about My Father’s House when I was pregnant with my second daughter,” she said. “The classes that I took in the Christian Women’s Job Corps showed me that I needed to do something different with my life.
“One day, we had chapel and I felt like the guy who was preaching was talking right to me. I gave my life to God that day.
“During my two-and-a-half years in My Father’s House, I was filled with scripture and positive influences. It helped me put a focus on my life and it gave me direction. It made me realize that I was important.”
After leaving the program, Watkins got married and started a new life with her husband and three children, now ages 9, 4 and 8 months.
“Before I went through the program my life had no direction. I left with a vision of who I am and I know that I am not here for anything other than to do the will of God. I learned to stop being dependent on others and I learned about the One who should be in charge of my life and will help me through everything. And it helped my marriage because now I have a clearer image of myself.
She said that anyone who comes to My Father’s House should expect to be held accountable and to learn work ethic.
“They need to be ready to go in a different direction with their lives,” she said. “For example, before coming here I used to have friends who were very negative influences. But here my friends pressured me to do good.
“One time, while I was in My Father’s House, I messed up and I freaked out so I decided to run away. Well, my friends called me and convinced me to come back and do the right thing. I’d never had friends who pressured me to do the right thing before.
“I’ll never forget the friendships that I had while I was there. And I will never forget all the love they gave us.”
