Adopting children deepened my understanding of grace. You see, I used to think that I should obey God because I owed it to Him for saving me, but now I know that I want to obey Him because He enjoys walking through life with me and wants me to be all that He created me to be.

Romans 8:15 says that instead of living in a spirit of fear, the “spirit of adoption” gives us the rights of children. When you realize that God wants you to match His stride because He likes having you along for the walk, it changes your outlook.

I once wrote that adoption is “not for the fainthearted.”
