Our God is still big, strong and mighty
“My God is so big so strong and so mighty. There’s nothing my God cannot do …”
I heard these words sing out recently as I walked through my neighborhood. I typically listen to music, a podcast, or just let my mind wander during these walks. There’s just something about being in the open air that’s nice and refreshing (well, when it doesn’t feel like a sauna).
As these words sang out, I was brought back to the summer I spent in Russia. Kandyce is pictured above, singing with the children in Russia in 2009.
We taught this song to the children living in the orphanages: them singing in Russian and me in English. Although we didn’t quite understand each other, we connected through the hand motions, fun gestures, smiles and happy laughs. (If you’re not familiar with this song and the hand motions, you’re totally missing out!)
As I continued my walk, I couldn’t help but smile and laugh as I thought about that summer. And then, the Lord spoke to my heart.
“It’s no different today. I’m still so big. I’m still so strong. I’m still so mighty. There’s nothing I cannot do.”
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” – Luke 1:37 ESV
My heart leaped and hurt all at the same time. How often I forget about the powerful God I serve. I forget he can do the impossible. That he is the creator of the world. The mountains, the valleys, the stars, and even us—it’s all his.
“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it setting.” – Psalm 50:1
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:1-2 ESV
May we always have faith like a child, believing and remembering our God is big, strong and mighty.
