Snapshots of Spring Break at Camp Buckner
During Spring Break, 60 families from the Buckner Family Pathways programs around the state gathered at Camp Buckner in Burnet, Texas, for fun, relaxation and encouragement. From rock climbing and kayaking to zip lines and archery, families enjoyed activities together they normally would not be able to do. For many families though, Camp Buckner was more than just a fun experience, it was a sanctuary to restore their souls.
Here are four ways, the Family Pathways mothers and their children fully experienced all Camp Buckner had to offer:
We grew closer as a family
Being a full-time college student can be tough sometimes, but then add in six kids and life can be downright comically frustrating to say the least. This past year, I have had some things that nearly killed my spirit so I was really looking forward to Spring Break. As soon as I stepped out of the bus at Camp Buckner, I immediately felt a sensation of peace run through my entire body and soul. Through the activities, worship and fellowship, my family and I felt a little closer and were able to show each other a little more love and patience. – Leboria Moore, Family Pathways, Houston
I stepped out in faith
I was chosen to lead a group bible study, which was an amazing experience. These women are all so tender and brilliant. We all long to be together and to share our experience as women, mothers, students and sisters in Christ – and we did. We shared our favorite scriptures, we listened to each other, and we learned what it means to be a daughter of the King of kings. It reminded me of Psalm 45:13: "The king's daughter is all glorious within." We are all so beautifully and wonderfully made. – Melanie Goodwin, Family Pathways Dallas
My children are trusting God
My boys memorized their first Bible scripture, other than the Lord’s Prayer. It was Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse was right on time and perfect for them to utilize daily when faced with bullies, decision making or just as a reminder they are courageous through God. The experience at camp truly brings my boys closer to God and my youngest sings out loud the gospel songs he learned when he thinks no one is listening. This confirms they are absorbing their experience because it pours out from their heart. – Teneika Rivers-Dancy, Family Pathways Houston
We made lasting memories
Camp Buckner gave mothers and their children from various corners of Texas an opportunity to unite and enjoy motherhood together in the Lord. It’s not every day this fellowship occurs to keep us in shape as strong and determined mothers. Between the humorous laughs and relieving cries, we shed our worries and despair together and rejoiced in praises of joy with our children. New beginnings are cherished with Buckner Family Pathways. We take new adventures and make new memories to keep between us through the rest of our lives. – Whitney Ervin, Family Pathways Longview
