What if I told you donating a pair of new shoes would change the trajectory of a child’s life? Shoes we take for granted or may even complain about sometimes are saving lives around the world by protecting those in need against disease and infection.
In many developing countries, children must walk barefoot in muddy, rocky terrain to gather clean water or go to school. Without shoes, their precious feet inevitably get cut, scraped and injured, which increases the likelihood of contracting infections and diseases like hookworm, jiggers and tetanus.
Did you know shoes can also increase school attendance? Shoes give children confidence and help show them that they truly matter. This hope creates a spiral of opportunity and achievement.
What’s more, we have a HUGE need for shoes right here in Dallas! In Dallas’ Bachman Lake community, 93% of the 4,000 students are economically disadvantaged and their families can’t afford to buy new shoes that fit their feet.
To combat this catastrophe both internationally and domestically, Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® is teaming up with 90.9 KCBI in August for the DFW Shoe Drive to spread hope, protection and opportunity in the form of new shoes.
Our goal is to raise 1,000 pairs of new shoes for the Bachman Lake community in Dallas. The greatest need we have is Boys shoes sizes 1-5 and Girls shoes sizes 4-5. We’re happy to say we do not need any baby/toddler shoe sizes.
