The hidden treasure
By Maria Orozco
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding – indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding. And if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright; he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” Proverbs 2:1-8 (NIV)
As a case manager at Buckner, I pray for wisdom. We can easily get caught up with the day-to-day paperwork and forget to ask the Lord to guide us. Without his wisdom, we are like people running around with blindfolds trying to do all that we can.
At times his understanding contradicts our human nature. We want to fix all crises and know exactly what to say. Yet, the wisdom and understanding of God may tell you to be still – to listen rather than talk.
The passage above reminds me that wisdom and understanding from the Lord is more precious than we often give it credit. The Bible says we should value it like silver and “search for it as for hidden treasure” (Proverbs 2:4).
I encourage you this week to see God’s wisdom and understanding. With his wisdom we can better help children who come with so much hurt and in need of love and compassion.

Prayer of the Week:
-God, fill us with the Spirit of wisdom, we pray, that we may be saved from all false choices. In your light, may we see the straight path you have prepared for us and walk with you faithfully.
