Walking in our promises
A few weeks ago, I listened to the XO Marriage Podcast by Pastor Jimmy Evans. His podcast reintroduced a truth to me I had forgotten: The promises I receive because I’m adopted into the family of Christ and being a descendant of Abraham. These same promises fall to all Christians; all we must do is receive them.
Look at Galatians 3:8-9: “What’s more the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’ So, all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.”
The Bible literally tells us that those who put their faith in Christ will get the same blessings (promises) as Abraham. Not because of anything we did, but because of Abraham’s faith and Christ’s sacrifice (Galatians 3:14).
This truth can hard for some of us to grasp. Whether it is because of the mistakes we have made or because our current circumstance seems too big. No matter what it is, we know it is the enemy’s effort to keep us away from the promises we have in Christ, as a child adopted into his family.
In these times, if a child was adopted into a family, they could never be disowned. I believe that Peter made sure to emphasize this point by choosing the word adopted, because that meant no matter what we did wrong from that point on, our place in Christ’s family was final.
So, you’re probably asking yourself what promises did this podcast encourage me to hang onto? The promise of healing, prosperity, redemption, children, blessings and the list goes on. When the enemy comes for your family, your health, your fertility or any other thing, remind him you are now a part of the bloodline of Abraham and have access to every promise God gave his people.
