When his friends decided to write a book about R.C. Buckner, they titled it R.C. Buckner’s Life of Faith and Works. That’s such a fitting title for a man known for putting his faith to work.

May 5 is set aside this year as the National Day of Prayer. Our focus at Buckner for this special day is remembering that God hears our prayers, while others feel our acts of service. I believe there is a strong connection between my prayer life and God moving me to act. The more I pray for others, the more God shows me what I can do to make a difference.

Through my acts of service, God is exalted. In fact, the theme for this year’s Day of Prayer is “Exalt the Lord, who has established us.”

And the theme passage is from Colossians 2:6-7: “As you there have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”

Our acts of service should flow out of thankfulness and gratitude to Jesus Christ, who rooted us and is building us up.

I hope you will join me today for a time set aside and dedicated to prayer.

Let’s pray together that God uses you and me for his glory and for the establishment and building up of his kingdom as we serve. And let’s remember that May 5 isn’t the only day we can pray and serve. Those should be a part of our lives every day – for God’s glory.
