The Bible tells the story of Jesus standing in front of crowd of people and choosing one man sitting in a tree to dine with. Another story describes Jesus offering a woman a drink of water without any way of actually drawing the water up from a well.
While these stories may seem random at first, each story ends with Jesus sharing the word of God and demonstrating God’s love in such a way that both individuals were forever changed. Both stories were, in fact, purposeful and one of many ways God fulfilled his mission through Jesus.
What random acts of kindness do you do in your everyday life? Perhaps, you leave extra money on a vending machine for the next person to use or you help an elderly neighbor mow their lawn. Do you leave an encouraging note on a napkin for a server at your favorite restaurant or send flowers to someone for no reason? Beyond exhibiting kindness, these acts can also play an important part in God’s plan.
As we go about our day may we be encouraged to ask God for wisdom and hear what acts of kindness he would like us to carry out.
God, thank you for showing me your generous love. Thank you for sending your son to rescue me from eternal separation from you. Today, show me how to love the people you place in front of me. When people interact with me, let them sense your loving presence in our conversations. In Jesus name, Amen.
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23
