Buckner International announced two leadership promotions with Buckner Children and Family Services. Henry Jackson was promoted to president of BCFS. Samela Macon was promoted to vice president of operations for BCFS and will continue to report to Jackson. Both title changes were effective Jan. 1.

“Beyond having a clear mission and values, a key reason behind the longevity of Buckner is our commitment to having a strategic succession plan,” said Albert Reyes, president and CEO of Buckner International.

“Henry and Samela have both served in numerous capacities at Buckner over the years, rising from direct service to leadership roles. They bring stability and wisdom while still being future-thinking and innovate in the field of social services and ministry.”

In his role as president, Jackson is the key driver, champion and visionary of strategic initiatives that advance BCFS’s visibility, reputation and success as the nonprofit works to serve vulnerable children and families in Texas and internationally.

Macon’s new role means she now provides leadership, oversight, supervision and management for all programs and activities of BCFS domestic and international programs.

Jackson has worked at Buckner since 1989, most recently as senior vice president of BCFS. He has also served as vice president of international operations, administrator, director of residential services and human resources manager.

Prior to Buckner, Henry served as a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears in the National Football League. Henry received his Bachelor of Arts from Angelo State University and his Master of Science from Amberton University. He is also a licensed child care administrator and an ordained minister.

Macon has approximately 25 years of child welfare experience, with 21 of those years being with Buckner. Her most recent role was vice president of domestic programs and support services for BCFS. She also served as foster home developer, foster home development supervisor and program director of foster care and adoption.

Macon received her Bachelor of Science in sociology from Lamar University and her Master of Science in leadership and human resource development from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Macon is a licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator, and she was a Buckner Mentee in 2008 and received the Buckner Leadership Award in 2014.

Domestic programs for BCFS include the Buckner Family Hope Center™, Buckner Family Pathways™, foster care and adoption, prevention and early intervention services, and transition services. Buckner also operates Family Hope Centers internationally.
