Houston single-parent families enrolled in the local Buckner Family Pathways™ program will now enjoy a new residential location closer to the city of Pearland, one of the fastest growing cities in Texas.
The new apartment community is in a safe, family-friendly neighborhood while only two and a half miles from the Buckner Family Hope Center™ at Reed Road. Buckner is leasing 10 apartments at the new location to begin but may lease more based on demand.
“All the families currently in the program were excited at the prospect of the new apartment location,” said Marisa Phillips, senior director of Buckner Family Pathways.
“The proximity to Pearland, a town with a lot of economic opportunity, is something we believe will greatly help our recruitment for new families. At the same time, the apartments are still close enough to the Family Hope Center to allow for easy access to child and teen after-school programs, family coaching and education classes.”
In 2018, the Family Pathways program and residences were moved from Conroe, north of Houston, to the new Cornerstone Community campus on Reed Road in South Houston. The move was part of the collaboration between Buckner, Star of Hope and New Hope Housing.
Buckner will continue to operate the Family Hope Center at Reed Road. Staff anticipates an increase in clients at the center in 2023 as it will now serve families in the nearby Sunnyside community in addition to the families living on campus in New Hope Housing apartments.
“We continue to value our collaboration with Star of Hope and New Hope Housing on the Cornerstone Community campus,” said Dior Burns, Buckner Houston director of administration and operations. “Together, we provide South Houston with a continuum of care that strengthens families and caters to their specific needs.”
Star of Hope and New Hope Housing were alerted to the Family Pathways relocation in December 2022.
