Adrián Beltré’s parents distributed shoes from Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® to kids in the Dominican Republic
This week, Bienvenido and Andrea Beltré, parents to retired Texas Rangers player Adrián Beltré, joined Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls to distribute shoes to children in the Dominican Republic community Adrián Beltré grew up in.
Viewed as a local hero, Adrián Beltré has strong ties to the community of Café de Herrera, located in the city of Santo Domingo, where he grew up and his parents were proud to place new shoes on the kids' feet and watch their excitement.
"Adrián has created something special here," Bienvenido Beltré said in Spanish. "It's good to reach out to the kids and give to the community."
Bienvenido and Andrea Beltré connected with Buckner leaders last month during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Texas Rangers Academy in the Dominican Republic, where Buckner is providing social services to the young players.
"The children are blessed to receive the shoes because they need them to go to school," said Maria de Brugal, executive director for Buckner Dominicana. "Sometimes they just don't have shoes to wear at all, so we understand that it is a blessing for them especially for their health so we can prevent diseases. It's a true need."
